’da night before Krissmas where ya'at 'da night before Krissmas t'was 'da night before Christmas and all through New Orleans every bartender's stirring Merry Krissmas to ya dahlin' 'da bar's been set up on 'da front porch wit' care in hopes dat a second line soon would be dere 'da kids pretend sleepin' up in deir beds while visions of crawfish pie danced in deir heads when out on 'da neutral ground arose such a drumming I sprang from my futon to see if a parade was coming away to google earth I clicked in a beat zoomed in on my shutters and on to my street den what to my wondering eye should appear but a red pick up truck Mr. Okra drove here his eyes how they twinkled his bullhorn it crackled as he called out "I HAVE ONIONS, TOMATOES AND APPLES" He had homemade jams and strawberry jelly I ran down to 'da street to buy some for Shelly and I heard 'da Pie Lady comin' as he drove out of sight I keep eatin' and drinkin' like 'dis I'm gonna sleep 'til Christmas night Merry Kringle, a Gear New Year, a Happy Mardi Gras and the Bestest Jazz Fest ever. red beans and ricely yours, Paulie |
