Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

I'm very pleased to announce the re;ease of Exit To Mystery Street and John Boutte's record Good Neighbor. I've spent the last six months making them and bringing them to life and I can't wait to hear what folks think. I dig them both I hope you do.
peace, love and jazz fest,
Paul

ps
many thanks to Jeff Peters for redoing my web site and for taping my music.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

This is a day I've been looking forward to for a long time. Congrats on adding to the already impressive Paul Sanchez catalogue of music. It's time for everyone to step up and make a valuable addition to your CD collection. My personal survey shows strong sales are being reported from Maryland.

Congrats again. I noticed Good Neighbor isn't up on the LMF site yet. Any idea of when?

Where is the best place to get them? LMF? Amazon? Itunes?

Louisiana Music Factory is the best place for any and all New Orleans music, John's will be up by the end of the week.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

I can't believe it took me this long to post!! First thank you to Jeff and of course Phil for making every attempt to actually get the CD to me for my Birthday. A day late but still amazingly quick. In fact, quicker than driving down there to get it I think. :) (When Sonoma Valley came out, it showed up the day after my Birthday too BTW)

It's really fun to hear how some of these songs have evolved over time. Things like Door Poppin' and Hoob-a-joob are very different here than the first time or two I heard 'em. That's really cool! Good to see Ride With the Devil show up again, though I admit I kinda miss Skeet singing on this one. :)

My two favs at the moment are Johnny and His June and Up to Me. I'm sure I'll change my mind about 15 times about what my favs are though.

Thanks for the fun new music. Can't wait for Jazzfest. Great music and great friends!

Oh I suppose I should tell everyone within driving distance of me ..... if you ordered your CD and it hasn't arrived yet, come on over and listen at our house.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

Poppy, your New Orleans roots come through loud and clear on the new CD. What an exuberant taste of the Crescent City with a dash of Belize thrown in the mix. Sedation reminds me of something wonderful out of the Lennon/McCartney catalogue. Johnny and June is destined to be a sing-along favorite at any live show. The guitar playing in Up to Me is sure to make your head bob up and down as you listen along. For the Rest of My Life and Exit to Mystery Street are vintage New Orleans and Poppy. Door Poppin', Hoob-a-joob and Manana have been personal favorites from your live shows that transition nicely to the studio. Finally, Don't be Sure is a great choice as a touching closing tune. Well done. Everyone out there, impress your friends with your musical taste and buy a couple extra copies to give to friends when you drop by to visit.

Got the CD late last week and haven't taken it out. All I can say about it is THANKS. The blend of everything you put together gives me hope that the culture we miss has a future rooted in the past we feared we lost.

Be well and keep singing and playing.

Best.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

I will put a full review up later...but, both Exit and Good Friend have blown me away. The diversity of music...the melodies and the lyrics are some of the best work I have ever heard...

You must be very proud...this is incredible stuff...

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

Mark H ... I thought the EXACT same thing when I heard Sedation. I was like, this could have been a Beatles song. Even the way it is recorded makes it sound like it was. It doesn't sound as "big" as most of the others do.

I also love the way that many of Paul's albums end with a slow, very calming song. I like that if you listen in order, you go from dancin' to Door Poppin' to singin' on Johnny to restin' and listenin' on Don't be Sure. And if you are drinkin' during the whole thing, it ensures you are ready for nappin' at the end. What can I say, I'm getting older folks! :)

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

I wrote a very favorable review (see above) after just a couple listens of the CD, but I've had a revelation. This CD gets even better, the more you listen to it. I cannot get Sedation out of my head. It's a song so different from everything else of Paul's. It really requires quite a few takes to appreciate all of the other musicians who contribute to this rollicking gem of a CD. Healey, I hope your mailman has found his way. Can't wait for Iota to hear some of the new songs played live.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

The mailman found his way yesterday; brand new Paul Sanchez and John Boutte all in a nice little (very heavily taped) package.

Believe it or not I only had time to listen to one song yesterday (Door Poppin - love the studio version), and because I'm a goof I forget to take it in the car this morning. But, I will certainly listen to the rest of it this evening and it'll probably hang out in my car stereo for quite a while!

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

Hallelujah - this is my third time trying to post, and I can finally see the little letters in the box below so I can type them in and verify. whew!

I loooooooooove ETMS. Great job Paul and the rest of the Rolling Road Show. I think the title track is spot on - just how I hoped it would sound. I can't get half of the songs out of my head - I wake up with one in there, get another in there in the car on the way to work, and then another on the way home. And as an avid Beatles fan, Sedation is just lovely.

I love the idea of walking down Frenchman St and sticking my head into various clubs, hearing the different songs. Perfect description for this album.
Congratulations on a job well done! :)

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

This is all sounding tremendous, stupendous, and monumentous, but I'll have to wait and pick up my copies in person for the long drive home. I'll be scraping along until then in order to properly indulge later in Louisiana. After that, I guess it will be June in Indy. Then maybe I can convince you to visit Michigan again. Your partner in crime, John Boutte, stops in pretty regular now.

Does anyone know if Paul is selling his CD at his concerts? There is a concert up my way in a few weeks I would just rather buy the CD from him directly than ordering it.

Wow, where is everybody? Were we the only ones that made it back from Jazzfest? Or are the rest of ya still sleeping it off?

Just a quick poll ... How many of yall had your picture taken under the Exit to Mystery Street sign? Oh yea, we are those kinda dorks.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

I've been busy mourning my absence from Jazz Fest.

As it turns out it was a good thing I didn't plan to go as I found out later that that weekend coincided with the last couple of days of Passover. If I had gone I would have been one big basket of hungry misery. Visiting New Orleans with no trip to Cafe to Monde? Forget trying to push a rock up a hill; that is my vision of hell.

I'm glad ya'll had fun though!

Thanks!

Thanks, Paul. I just want to say again how much I'm enjoying both CDs. In fact, I was blown away by the vitality of the NOLA music scene as a whole, considering everything that has happened. You guys will not stay down, and that's an inspiration for anyone. Maybe there's something to what Donald Harrison said about the city being all right as long as there were enough musicians.

Re: Exit To Mystery Street and Good Neighbor

Paul,

I know I'm a bit behind, but I just found your Dancing song yesterday. I love it and put it on track repeat in the car. And since it's only a minute and a half long, I got to listen to it 15 times on the way to work this morning!

Hope all is well with you and Shelly...
