Each day I inch closer to my first Jazzfest and selfishly pray that I can make it on down. So far, so good.

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

Is it time for wacky requests yet?

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

There will be some wacky requests taken at the d.b.a. show which will be Shamarr, Mary, Sonia and me. the next day at the Station we add Russ Broussard on drums who is plenty wacky but also Alex McMurray who has never played with me before so I don't want to throw too much wack at him on the first time.
The Fest set is written. Time is tight and I know from experience that it flies by at the Fest.
I do believe you said you would be in town in time for d.b.a. so wack away.
peace, love and jazz fest,

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

Wow Poppy, nice to know I'm not the only morning person 'round these parts.

It'd be fun to hear Buddy Bolden's Blues again. I suppose I Don't Wanna Play Rock n Roll might be a little too ironic with both Mary and Sonia alongside :).

But this is punching above my league. Last time I saw you at d.b.a. you pulled stuff out that was well beyond my imagination and you had us eating out of the palm of your hand. So I'll let the more experienced hands have a go.

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

OK is anybody recording DBA our freakin flight just isn't gonna make it on time and I HATE that I might miss some of the wonderful goodness. I am thrilled to hear Russ is joining you on Saturday but dangit I wanna hear the wackiness too!

I guess its just a case of wanting more than you can have. MJ, Jake, Jenn you have to tell us all about it when we get there. And that is what friends are for.
Thanks,
Phil

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

What can I say, Phil has a lousy travel agent. ;)

We will pretty much be on a plane during the entire dba show but we look forward to seeing everyone on Friday night. Oh and if our plane gets in on-time-ish, we are planning to go see Peabody at the station. I have a total girl-crush on Karen Bailey ... at least her voice anyway. (I don't think I have ever seen her really).

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

Sorry Phil, russ is with me Friday but Eric Bolivar from Bonearama is on drums on Saturday. He is good though.
I Thought I heard Buddy Bolden Say, you got it Jake.

People - please tape and share...we need a bit of Poppy...

Paul - did you ever get to see those links of your solo stuff on youtube? As far as a wacky request, though I will not be there, let me throw one out there for ya - Lil Liza Jane...I saw you play it once at a house show...it killed...

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

All of you are so lucky. I wish I could be there. If somebody records any of the shows, I would love a copy. Does anybody know if there is going to be a Munckmix of Paul's JazzFest show available for purchase? I hope so, then I might be able to hear some of what I'm missing. :(

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

It may have only been 3 1/2 songs but it was an awesome 3 1/2 songs. No sound check, only one mic and more rain than we've gotten in Charlotte in years. The enthusiasm from everyone on stage and all of us watching was just over the top. It funny to be in the middle of completely rediculous weather, cold, wet and tired; only to realize that there was absolutely no other place on the planet that any of us would rather be right at that moment! Definitely memorable. :)

Oh and Happy Birthday to Sonia!

Re: Jazzfest and Club Dates

Paul, Just want to say that Jenny and I so enjoyed the shows..at d.b.a. and the fest. The weather was absolutely horrific and I still cannot believe you came out to play for all of us diehard Paul fan-atics on the stage at JF when you could have easily been electrocuted! Very memorable show.

The d.b.a. show was one of the best that I have seen in sometime - not that I do not love 'em all. You were on top of your game and your Wizard of Oz cover was over the top. Shelly looked as though she was having an awesome night as well. Thanks for introducing me to Shamarr's music too.

Take care of yourself. Hope that you are feeling well.
