Poppy's Therapeutic Music
As I mentioned earlier, I recently had a minor stroke. Just a couple days ago, I was released from the hospital's rehabilitation ward. I'm feeling close to 100% in all ways now. One of the things I used to like to do in my many hours of idle time was give myself some music therapy. The ward had a day room with a computer terminal available for us to use. I'd head down there and after clearing my emails, I would usually settle in to listen to some of my favorite music, often Paul and his compadre, John Boutte. Soon I would be singing along with the music and really enjoying myself. One day I was singing along with "Home" when a couple of my fellow patients got curious about what I was "jamming" along with. One thing led to another and soon there were five of us bouncing around in the corner of the day room. Picture all of us, either in wheelchairs or leaning on walkers, sort of dancing around as best we could. Understand that many of these people were in much worse shape than I was, with missing limbs, for instance. We were all uplifted by the songs, and soon we had a regular chorus singing our adopted version of "Home". I hope you don't mind how we modified it (very) slightly to fit our situation. We sang, "I want to go home (obviously) Whatever it takes I want to go home When our walkers break I want to go home Where the streets have holes (pothole season) I want to go home Where the good times roll" Music works in mysterious ways. Thanks, Poppy! |
