Message:   From our contact at the Tennessee State Museum:

I have some news about the flag project.

Fonda Thomsen's company has changed hands. The people Fonda trained to do most of her work now own it and Fonda is in relative retirement with her horses in Texas. Fonda will continue to consult as a specialist on flag history and to authenticate flags, but the conservation work will be done by the "new" company. Because of that official change, which took several months of negotiations, work on the flags was postponed until the official status for billing, etc., was established. That has now been done, and I am told that the first invoice for a deposit so work can begin will come in April. They expect to finish them by the end of 2007, so the final date has not changed.

The conservators have been very conscientious in keeping us posted on everything that was happening, so we could be responsible stewards of the CMF and SCV donations, which were put into CDs. In the case of the two CMF-funded flags, that interest should cover the slight change in estimates that occurred once the flags arrived at the laboratory and could be examined in detail.
