It is with the utmost respect and heartfelt love for my comrade that I wrote these few lines.
I am honored and consider it a great privilidge to be able to say that Danny Snyder is my friend.
I was informed Thursday morning following this unexpected tragedy, and still remain in shock and denial of its occurance. I sincerely offer my condolence and sympaties to his family.
A short fourteen years I have spent in his company and have benifited from his kinship and have been nurtured through his wisdom. He pressed me into the service of the unit at Salem, Virginia the first day I met him. I have enjoyed countless hours of conversation and corrospondence with him since.
Never have I been in his company that I was not asked to share his meal or drink. I do not recall a phone conversation that he did not ask to speak to my Grandmother so he could relish what he calls her sweet, southern drawl. I cannot remember any talk with him that he did not ask of my relatives he knows or how Jubal my Rottiwieler is faring.
I can only briefly summerize my feelings in this, which I wrote Thursday:
COLONEL
C- stands for compassion, which he holds for the proper presentation and historically correct teaching of the heritage we are so fortunate to preserve.
O- is for being observant of the many situations and surroundings on the field or off, and in desling with the politics and subsequent scrunity that our organization must handle tactfully.
L- denotes loyalty, never faltering our brethern as he looks after the interests of the CMF, our beloved 1st Tennesee Volunteers, and her sister units.
O- would be obediance to his duties as our leader and his steadfastness to any force or person that would misuse our cause.
N- representing noble, as a leader should be, holding the admiration of all who know him in the realm of the re-enacting community, the government branches, and the mueseums and foundations with which we interact.
E- must be excellence in his approach, being the point man for our Org. tending the tasks and day to day affairs he so carefully handles.
L- assuredly means lionheartedness in his demeanor and belief that our Org. is the best of the best and always stands out on any field among any number.
These words are but a small token of grattitude and esteem that I hold for my Colonel.
Our Org. truely loves and holds dear Danny Snyder.
Your humble servant,
Pvt. R. G. Fuller
