I watched a program about the CCR5 Gene mutation a few years ago and it said that the mutation began with a few individuals from 3 or 4 townships who were survivors of the Black Plague. Paul would have to be a direct decendant of these individuals to have this gene mutation. It's found nowhere else.
They also said that inorder for someone to have been exposed to the HIV virus and not have it show up in their blood (Meaning that they are immune to the virus) they would have to have 2 copies of that gene passed onto them. Meaning, both of Paul's parents would have to be direct decendants from these townships and would have a copy of the gene and each of them would have pass one copy to him in order for Paul to be immune. Paul, inturn, passed one copy to Jake and that is why Jake shows' possitive for HIV but does not have any symptoms and may never have them.
I wish I could remember what progam it was, but it was very educational. It also stated that this gene could be the answer we have all been looking for.
It is very rare for someone, out of all the billions of people on this planet, to have 2 copies of this gene. For both parents to be decended from these townships. There are a few, but not many.
Paul is truly an unique individual and a blessing to us all.
