bringing our own provisions

Leaving next week for a bareboat charter out of St. Lucia. We are provisioning on our own and wondering if anyone knows what might be allowed to be brought in from the US to St. Lucia food wise? Ideally for us, it would be a cooler full of our favorite food, but realistically what could we bring?
Coffee? Canned food? Crackers? Cheese? Everything? Nothing?
Appreciate any knowledgeable replies!

Re: bringing our own provisions

I chartered with the Moorings out of St. Lucia 4 or 5 years ago. I brought two boxes of food, mostly dry goods, coffee, cereal, canned tuna, etc. You'd probably have a problem bringing anything that required refrigeration (like most cheeses, meat etc.), either because of airline restrictions or the local customs requirements. You can usually check on line the find the local custom requirements. We didn't have any problem provisioning for meat, dairy and produce in St. Lucia; they have markets which will have most anything you're going to want. And if you're heading toward Martinique, you'll find markets and great French food in the larger towns. Be careful down there. . .this part of the Caribbean has more crime than others. (See article in this month's Cruising Magazine.)

Happy sailing,
