Distance & Foordy

Variance to the Monday Night Ride from this week

After considerable consultation Foordy and I have made the brave decision to alter slightly, the route of the Monday Night Ride. This will affect only the last couple of miles.

Instead of the Teddersley Road gallop. We will turn right prior to heading into Penkridge and go up the road to the Pottal Pool Roundabout. At which point we will turn left along the Cannock Road and finish in the usual spot - at Brocton crossroads.

We just thought a bit of a change was needed.

Won't be very popular with the users of the A34. I avoid that road due to all the blind bumps and no overtaking lines.

I suppose at that time of evening it should be quieter.

This is just a sneaky precursor to taking wheezy old *******s like me over the chase and running a book at the start over who has the heart attack first!!

Did the climb up Broadhurst Green Road last week, I wouldn't fancy doing that at the end of the Monday night ride

Sounds good, looking forward to it.

With a straighter road to finish on I should be able to keep the group in my sights longer before they dissapear into the distance

See you tonight

Re: Variance to the Monday Night Ride from this week

We have considered the safety of the ammended route. The only noteable hazards are the right turn off the Cannock road by the cat hotel. Very quiet through to Pottal Pool road. Moderate additional hazard of right turn here. Once on the A34, it is a wide and relatively straight road with ample passing space. This will be quicker than the Teddersley road meaning we should be less of a hazard to cars. There is also a speed camera approaching the finish, meaning cars will be travelling more slowly than on the Teddersley road. This section of the A34 has previously been used for road racing, so proven to be acceptable to group riding. Most of us will have also ridden on it at speed during the local training TT's.

Re: Variance to the Monday Night Ride from this week

That was double miles last night guys. Those who missed it will regret it for months to come. Glad we turned for Pottal Pool at the bottom instead of the cats hotel. That way you get the full effect of the drag up to Pottal Pool! When we got home Pete said thanks to his Dad for dragging him out on a night when he might have sat with his feet up in front of the telly – at least I think that was the gist of it! Apologies to the group for any bad language. I'll have to find a different way of geeing myself up.

Re: Variance to the Monday Night Ride from this week

Well glad to say that I managed to stay on a wheel...just, not sure whether Pete was pulling me along on the latter of the A34 but I decided to grab onto the wheel anyway so I could get home quciker.

Just managed to thaw out this morning, shoes totally drenched through, as thought it would be a nice spring evening....Duh

Hope everyone made it back ok, I think it was everyman/woman for themselves towards the end.

Great ride, the refreshing April shower was just enough to cool you down towards the end

The surreal sunlight as the storm clouds gathered was something to behold.

I quite liked the new route; you can really get some speed up on the final run in, even in torrential rain. I recorded a distance of 30.5 miles Mammoth-->Mammoth – pretty much exactly the same as the previous route.

Till next week

No need to apologise for bad langauge G - I took being called T+++ a compliment. You seem to be fulfilling the role of grumpy old pensioner well. Pete says you have been perfecting it for years.

I think the change was good. Shame about the weather. Turning where we did was a good move - I think the earlier turn, we would have lost a bit of distance.

So the way forward then.

Re: Variance to the Monday Night Ride from this week

I like the route change.....

I know last night was every man for himself more or less when the rain came down hard but in future would it be a good idea to ease up after the pottal pools roundabout to enable a regroup..... for the gallop back to brocton?

Cheers

Re: Variance to the Monday Night Ride from this week

Do you know, looking back, now it's over and the dust has settled, Monday night's watery ride was really good.

But, I wouldn't want to do it again in a hurry...
