Monday night ride, May 12th.
Good turn out last night....16 I think. A good pace with an improvement in the safety of the group. Compared to when we first went out as a group, the riding on the lanes is way better. The group simply squeezed togther to allow traffic to pass, as opposed to panicking and slowing down....way better. Very impressed with Gemma and Chop. Certainly able to stay in the first group....no need for anyone to wear an Ipod...Chops breathing was superbly entertaining and full of rhythm. GF. |

Arh.... it was Chop who was heavy breathing behind me going up Mansty lane..... Cracking night....haven't been out for a couple of weeks ...so was happy to be comfortable in the group.....until the dreaded cramp struck ....just before the turning into pottal pools lane..... Lets hope this weather sticks around for the rest of the summer.....it was good to be riding my better bike and to be wearing short sleeves and shorts..... Cheers Vince

LOST: Somewhere between Penkridge and Brewood - One pair of of lungs well used and will be greatly missed .It was very generous of the group to allow me to take the lead on my first Monday night ride . Thanks to GF for picking me up, when I got unceremoniously spat out of the group at Brewood .Many thanks for good ride. I'll be out next week for more of the same .

I wasn't able to make the ride last night, but I did the route on Saturday - well, until Coven, when I was stopped by this... http://www.expressandstar.com/2008/05/12/crashes-stretch-999-teams-to-limit/ I can't have missed it by more than 30secs - 1min, so I consider myself pretty lucky, especially after recent events. Did anyone see any police signs asking for witnesses? The crash happened on the Coven Road, right by the village sign. I was overtaken, at speed, by a van not long before this, so might have some info for them. Speaking to some of the locals who stopped in their cars, they said the road is really dangerous and a similar crash happened only a couple of weeks ago. Another reminder to take care on the roads. |

A national speed limit of 60mph in narrow roads with poor visibility is crazy. |

Superb ride. I could tell Chop was really hurting when he went silent and stopped complaining about how much he was hurting. Hung in there though. I think Foordy and I need to work out whether there is an alternate to the Flanders style lane that we go along once out of Penkridge. The condition of the road is worse than poor - we will keep you posted. |

DG.... how about the following to bypass the roubaix type part of the route..... From Pinfold lane in penkridge deviate straight on into Water Eaton lane over the A5 into Claygates Road then back onto the orignal route of Engleton lane up into Brewood? cheers Vince |
