HIV Exposure

While collecting blood of a patient for diagnosis of HIV, you accidentally get needle stick injury. What steps are needed to be taken?

Re: HIV Exposure

First the wound should be cleaned with soap and water but without scrubing. Then bleeding should be encouraged by pressing lightly, best to do this under running water. Test for HIV. And the use of anti-HIV drugs should be given afterwards. And the person should be check as a follow-up in 2-3 months.
