I was a volunteer in the North and had a wonderful experience. I did feel I the need to dress a bit more conservatively than people in the south. Professional women don't often wear anything above the knee or anything that doesn't cover your soulders. (Like no tank tops or atleast no thin strapped ones.) Good luck.
