Re: Visas for neighboring countries

Kwabo,

Getting visas was not that hard for me as long as you have time to hang around Cotnou to get them. I remember that Niger embassy had odd hours. For some countries you can get visas at the border but you have to find out ahead of time. They can also get their visas before they leave the US by sending them by mail to the embassy's in DC. If they have several Visas to obtain, I heard that there are services in DC that get them for you.

Definitely go to Ouidah to see the Route D'Esclaves and the museums. Ganvie, the Royal Palace in Abomey, the Tata Somba in N. Benin, museums in Porto-Novo. Gran Popo for the beach. Lome is interesting too.

Bonne Chance!

Chris

Hello!

On the subject of visitors... I just recently got paperwork from PC that makes it sound like getting visas for visitors is an arduous process and should be started 6 months in advance. Once in-country, how easy/difficult is it to get visas to visit neighboring countries? I just met a doctor from Togo who informed me that Lome used to be the resort town in that region and is only about an hour from Cotonou by car. Any regional travel tips or not-to-be-missed destinations?

(I'm excited about being in Benin too! This info is more for my friends and family who would love to visit - as for Benin, I was told that I should definitely go to Ouidah - has anyone gone?)

Thanks!
