Hi Tandy,

From what I've heard and seen is that Peace Corps doesn't feel that any specific setting is better or worse for married couples. When you are in training they will take your preferences and may or may not honor them when assigning you to a post. I know I an many of my stagemates did not get their first pick. I suppose there are many factors that go into deciding where volunteers get posted. I doubt being married or single is a very important one in their book. I don't think there are any written rules about where to post volunteers and it is largely up to the whim and conventional wisdom of the people in charge. I have heard of married couples posted in both small towns, and villages. (But then again I've only known two married couples in Benin so the sample size is small). I hope this helps.

My wife and I will both be english education volunteers in Benin. I was wondering if you had any insight into whether there are certain cities or towns where married couples are usually placed. For example, I thought that we might end up in one of the larger cities since there are two of us doing the same thing. On the other hand, I thought they might tend to put married couples in the more remote places, since we would have each other for company. I was just curious and would appreciate any thoughts you might have. Thanks for your help!
