BO DIDDLEY protegees back in studio

BO DIDDLEY's protegees The Jewels have recently been back into the recording studio and now have 2 new tracks available on a CD titled "The Velons & Their Divas" (BJM-008), out this month (October 2007).

Over a total of 13 tracks, "The Velons & Their Divas" brings together for the first time on CD the popular Washington, DC-based doo *** quartet The Velons, plus a showcase selection of some of the most talented female voices of early R&B and doo wop: The Clickettes, The Jewels and Justine "Baby" Washington.

The Jewels, a powerhouse DC-based female vocal trio, originally formed in 1961 as The Impalas. They gathered in BO DIDDLEY's north-east Washington, DC home studio where they would record sessions with him plus other local artists, including The Marquees and Billy Stewart.

Through BO DIDDLEY's connections, The Impalas recorded "For The Love of Mike" (Checker 999) for Chess Records in 1961, before later achieving pop and R&B chart success as The Jewels.

Bringing the story right up to date, The Jewels' song "Sugar Wooga Baby" included on the new CD was written by Reese Palmer of The Marquees. A second track by The Jewels, "Someone To Love", is also now available on "The Velons & Their Divas", which can be ordered from The Velons' official website, located at http://www.velons.com/audio/audio.html
