"Electrified: The Story of The Maxwell Street Urban Blues" examines the history of electrified urban Chicago blues and how it gave birth to rock & roll. Written and directed by independent TV writer/producer Phil Ranstrom, the movie is an offshoot project from his 2006 documentary film "Cheat You Fair: The Story of Maxwell Street", which pays tribute to Chicago's world-famous Maxwell Street open-air market, from its beginnings in the late 19th century to its turbulent end in the mid-1990s when the property was sold to the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to expand their South Campus.

For more than a century, Maxwell Street was a port of entry into Chicago for immigrants arriving from Europe, Latin America and the Southern States. Operating in the style of the European street markets, in the 1930s and 1940s the area became famous for its blues music and street musicians and the electrified urban Chicago blues popularized by artists including BO DIDDLEY, Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Muddy Waters that gradually evolved into rock & roll.

A new Maxwell Street Documentary Channel at YouTube, located at http://www.youtube.com/user/maxwellstreetdoc now also has a number of authorised video clip extracts from the two movies available to view on-line.

Both movies are Big Shoulders Digital Video productions in conjunction with the Chicago Historical Society.
