New "Chess" biopic now retitled "Who Do You Love"

Director Jerry Zaks' new biopic of Leonard Chess has been retitled "Who Do You Love" and it receives its world premiere next month at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Originally titled "Chess", the movie stars Alessandro Nivola as Leonard Chess and it explores the professional success and personal sacrifices of the men behind what would come to be known as America's greatest blues label.

"Who Do You Love" receives its TIFF gala presentation world premiere at the Roy Thompson Hall in Tornonto, Canada at 9.30pm on Thursday September 11th 2008.

Founded by Leonard and his brother Phil, Chess Records helped to introduce and popularize blues, R&B, jazz, gospel and soul music during the 1950s and 1960s, including that of BO DIDDLEY, Chuck Berry, Etta James, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin' Wolf.

Recorded at the Chess Records Studio in Chicago, IL on Thursday May 24th 1956, "Who Do You Love" (Checker 842) is one of BO DIDDLEY's most popular and enduring compositions, thanks, in part, to recordings of the song by artists including The Doors, Quicksilver Messenger Service and George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

The movie "Who Do You Love" is due to go on general release in 2009. The film will compete against Sony/BMG Film's "Cadillac Records", which also centers on the rise and fall of Chess Records. That film stars Adrien Brody, Beyonce Knowles, Mos Def and Jeffrey Wright.
