We were saddened to hear of the passing last week (Tuesday March 17th 2009) of Lester Davenport at Chicago's Mount Sinai Hospital, following a long illness. He was 77.
As a member of BO DIDDLEY's band in late 1955, Lester's glorious, sweet-toned harmonica playing added much to the early BO DIDDLEY sound on classic recordings including "Pretty Thing" and "Bring It To Jerome".
Lester was a wonderful man who was eager to welcome new friends and share his harmonica secrets to aspiring players. He had a warm smile and the ability to add humor to any situation.
Visitation will be held on Friday (March 27th), 3.00pm-9.00pm and funeral services will be on Saturday (March 28th), 10.00am-12.00 noon at AA Rayner & Sons Funeral Home, 5911 W. Madison, Chicago, IL 60644, phone 773-626-4222, fax 773-626-5223.
