Hip Hop is a Cult: Part 1

Greetings Geoclan...

thought i would stop by and share my airless ramblings... how come yall aint got a branch in Houston?

Any way, as an avid hip hop fan, and current internship with VIBE Magazine, I just thought i would share my insight with the rest of the world with the currrent state of Hip Hop...

I call it: Hip Hop Is a Cult

by: Karyn J

What ever happened to, what happened to, what happened to, hip hop?

I once did a spoken word on a segment about " I Sold my Soul To Hip Hop", touching on the facets that are plauging the once infamous music, drowning out your eardrums like stereo/boomboxes shoulder side gestures, and the oh so "walk". Back when it use to be addictive with candy scratches, and over-ly adorned jewelry pieces (circa flava flave 88).

Although, hip hop used to be a state of mind it, the artist of those time period, were more realistically expressive and truthfull to the meaning... It's Hip, and it makes you Hop. They had breakers spinning with addidas gear, boasting: All Day I Dream About Hip Hop... ****, those were those days...

Biz Markie "just a friend", Run DMC, KRS (who by the way is coming out with a new album, cop that please), the Underaccredited RAKIM (wtf, this dude is legendary...nuff said), those are the cultred names (of course the popular scores, like Mos Def who was underground at the time).

But that just it, hip hop was hot, but now hip hop is just on FIRE... no literally. Heres my new theory: Hip-holoticsPopCouture, the new revouloutionary cult of hip hop. The whole Knock when their down, but have them sell themselves out to be back up... its like this, somewhere from 99-till today hip hop has made a major shift, and i dont think it was for the better either. Artist who once were about self-representation are now conforming to this pop bull**** just to get sales, and honey the kids are loving it...

Notice the trend... i was recently looking at a new issue of Vibe, and i spotted a new South Pole add of Prodigy and Havoc ( for those who dont know, they are known as Mobb deep), the two were decked head to toe in polos, blazers, and dress shoes... wtf? the infamous MOBB DEEP... not that not only that, they just recently signed with G Unit, ( which by the way at the vibe awards Gunit got into it with a couple of artist and fled, leaving prodigy to walk back to the hotel by himself...). I almost bust into tears when i found out David Banner sang that song " work that girl" or what ever the hell the name of that song is... Banner, banging heads, mississppi calling banner... total conformity move!( but i admit it did boost record sales!). DOOOOOnt even get me started on snoop dogg, on his ever changing labels, luckily he got to his senses when he figured out that Nolimit, was definitly NOT the way to go.
