What's d source of agar? What are it's imp properties?

Re: Agar

Agar is the material used to prepare solid media for bacterial cultures. Its obtained by diffrent types of seaweeds. Its unique property is its melts at high tempreture approxtimately 98 degree centigrade and sets at 42 degree centigrade, the most important property of agar is its jellyfying property.

Re: Re: Agar

That's wonderful Sakia. Anoher property is, it's bacteriologically inert...doesn't support or inhibit growth of any bacteria. Different melting and solidifying points helps us in adding defibrinated blood at around 45-48 C without denaturation for making blood agar.
