I am a professional writer and lecturer, raised in South Ruislip, researching the background to an unsolved local murder case.
The victim was Jean Mary Townsend, who lived at 92 Bempton Drive with her parents. Jean was murdered on the night of Tuesday, September 14, 1954 in wasteland adjacent to Victoria Road in South Ruislip as she was returning from a night out in the West End.

I used to live on The Croft, South Ruislip, and the murder happened at the end of the alley at the end of our road, which led onto Victoria Road. When I came home from school there were white tents and lots of police, my parents told us what happened. I was about 11-12 at the time. All residents on our street were questioned, and I recall the rumour that it was a US serviceman under suspicion.
