I'm Charlie Dillard and I wanted to say how much I enjoy your site!

I am a former Richmonder who graduated from Huguenot High School. In the 1990s, I lived up on Monument Avenue and Hanover Avenue and loved every second of it.

I left several years ago to work in Northern Virginia. I spent 40 years in the city and I think about all the good times I spent there. My parents still live off Jahnke Road on the Southside.

The **** thing about Richmond is the lack of opportunity there. So many people wind up leaving. I ran into a guy in Springfield the other day who had lived in Richmond most of his life but was forced to move on in search of work. We both reminisced about High's Ice Cream and Bill's Barbecue. It seems like that unless you come from one of the wealthy families there just isn't a lot to keep you there. Oh well.

I went to Virginia Tech in the late 1990s and got a job in the technology world up here in Maryland. But I still go back to Richmond from time to time and it's still a great place.
