Always enjoy this site. I have research question. Do you have any information on the gas light that Mordecai reports on an octagonal tower at 12th and Main in the early 19th century? It was supposedly intended to light the basin and was apparently quite bright. I have been doing map research to see if it is represented.

I worked on the archaeological excavation of the boats in the canal basin in the 80s and even wrote my master's thesis on it. I am always surprised at the lack of historical comment on the basin. I suppose locals just took it for granted.
