Re: Re: Re: What are we here for? (Lots of other questions)
Hypothetically - because I don't know if that would be possible - if everyone realized that everything is pointless, I think that I would be a lot happier and a lot less lonely. Ha ha. I really can't stand the culture I am surrounded by. However, back to the real issue: how would this change the rest of the world? I think it would be a great awakening, because there would be less mindless zombies out there working 8+ hours a day for no purpose. Instead I think that people would be able to have more freedom to pursue whatever pointless desires they have and toss away what they're 'supposed' to do and what society expects them to do.
It is impossible to completely embrace the fact that everything is pointless, because no matter what, you're next action must have a motive, even decisively taking no action at all requires a motive, but if everything is pointless then no action is more desirable than another, therefore no motive should exist. Since society exists and must follow that law, society would still have to come up with pointless morals, ideas, motives, whatever, but I think that people would be less likely to follow one widely held belief system, and more likely to come up with their own, if they realized how pointless everything is.
