Re: Filles du roi - Marie Selle m. Nicolas Guillemet

Hi! In his book "The Filles du Roi 1663-1673", Peter Gagne notes that Marie Sel was born about 1647 in the parish of Sainte-Trinite in Bois-Guillaume (archdiocese of Rouen), Normandy. She was the daughter of Guillaume Sel and Marguerite Dormesnil, who were married July 12, 1639 at Sainte-Trinite. After her father's death, Marie left for Canada in 1667 at the age of 20. Marie had a dowry of 200 livres. As you probably know, Marie married Nicolas Guillemet on October 17, 1667 at Quebec City. I don't have information at this time regarding the ship she sailed on or an exact date of arrival.

Good luck in your research. Let us know if you find any further info concerning Marie's arrival in New France.

She sailed on the Saint Louis from Dieppe, France. Just copy the above link and paste it into your address bar, then go to 1666-67. The Saint Louis's # is 565 and go down the page to the passengers list and click on her name. Hope it works .....if not I will try another method.

The link worked great and I printed out Marie's information--including a rendering of Le Saint-Louis. I was able to translate some of the website into English using Yahoo's language aid. Thank you so much!

Thank you for this link. Not only do I have Marie in my lineage, but several other filles du roi as well, as it turns out. This will give me a lot more information to fill in my ancestry!
