Looking for any information on Marie Chevreau who married Rene Reaume Oct 29, 1665

Re: Filles Du Roi Marie Chevreau

Hi Michele,

In case you don't have this info yet: Marie was a fille du roi. She was born about 1652 in the parish of Saint-Valérien in Chateaudun (diocese of Chartres), Beauce (Champagne), France, the daughter of François Chevreau and Antoinette Thalu or Jallée. After her father's death, Marie left for Canada in 1665 at about ahe 13, bringing goods worth about 200 livres for her dowry.

Marie married René Réaume on October 29, 1665 at Sillery, New France (the marriage is listed in the Quebec City register). Notary Duquet wrote their marriage contract; neither spouse could sign it. However, they were well-connected, as this list of notables who did sign it attests: Intendant Talon, Governor Courcelles, the Chevalier de Tracy, Anne Gasnier, and the widow d'Ailleboust.

I obtained this info from author Peter Gagné, who notes in his book, "King's Daughters and Founding Mothers: The Filles du Roi, 1663-1673", that "(g)iven the bride's age, the colonial dignitaries marked their sanctioning of such a marriage with their presence at the marriage contract."

He also notes that René was a carpenter, born in about 1643 in the parish of Notre-Dame-de-Cogne in LaRochelle, Aunis, the son of master carpenter Jean Réaume and Marie Chevalier. He has some additional interesting tidbits in his book, including that René was sentenced on July 22, 1669 to make a public apology to fille du roi Ann Tavernier for having damaged her reputation with "atrocious insults," and that he appeared before the Conseil Souverain an additional 13 times for other matters over the following 39 years.

Marie and René settled in Quebec City, then moved to Charlesbourg. They had 12 children, plus René had a child out of wedlock with fille du roi Renée Labastille. René died October 30, 1722 in Quebec City, and Marie died in February 1724 at Chateau-Richer.

Re: Filles Du Roi Marie Chevreau

Marie Chevreau was born on 1645, near my house : I live in Chateaudun (France) and I'd like know if Marie has family in France now ? I cannot have the book from Peter Gagne.
