Stocking Alcohol for Charter

Six of us are chartering our first Moorings Flotilla trip. What is the best way to get our weeks supply of alcohol on board? Is there a good/inexpensive (is that an oxymoron?) provisioning service. Any suggestions appreciated. Also I'd love suggestions on a good place to stay for 3 or 4 days prior to setting sail - would like a beach front location on Tortola. Thanks to all!

Re: Stocking Alcohol for Charter

Moorings has a nice grocery store right at the Marina with lots of alcohol choices. We sometimes have the charter company stock the boat with alcohol to get underway faster but there is usually lots of time to do a weeks worth of grocery shopping the morning before you set out while the rest of the crew is getting the boat famil and chart briefing etc.

There are carts to take the groceries right to the boat. We usually shop ourselves since it is easy, quick and fun to pick your own choices from the shelf.

If you are Chartering out of Tortola,I would suggest going to Tico's to stock up on alcohol. There website is www.ticobvi.com. They are a 2 minute walk from the Moorings Base. They have a large selection of beer, wine and liquor. The market at the base is limited and expensive. Once you leave Roadtown, re-stocking gets pricey,so make sure you load up before you leave. For some local flavor, try a bottle of Calderwoods Rum.
For grocery provisioning, try Bobby Supermarket.[www.bobbysmarketplace.com]They have an online order form to choose items from.Email it to them and your order will be ready when you specify, and they will delive it to the dock.
If you are Chartering out of Canouan, take the courtesy van from the Tamirand Hotel to a local store. The driver will know where to go for the best deals.
In Tortola, I would look into staying at the Sugar Mill. It's an old converted sugar mill, has great food and the beach is just across the road.
In Canouan, The Tamirand Hotel is the place to stay. The base is on the same property.
Have a geat trip!

To avoid chasing ice all week, keep the booze and mixers in the fridge or freezer. Ice is $4-$5 bag and doesn't last long in a cooler.
