Laptops with 8GB RAM: Performance vs. Price - What's the Sweet Spot?

Hey everyone,
I'm in the market for a new laptop and I'm trying to figure out what the sweet spot is for performance vs. price when it comes to laptops with 8GB of RAM. I've done some research and found some conflicting information, so I thought I'd ask for some opinions here.
Here are some of the things I've found: A forum post from 2012 suggests that 8GB of RAM is a good starting point for a gaming laptop, but it's something that can be upgraded later on.
A recent review of a MacBook Air suggests that it's a great laptop for people who don't need a lot of performance, but it only comes with 8GB of RAM laptop. A forum post from 2015 suggests that 8GB of RAM might become low-end in 1-2 years, but it's unclear if that prediction came true. A forum post from 2021 suggests that 16GB of RAM might not be worth the extra cost for most people. A Reddit post from 2023 suggests that 32GB of RAM might be the new sweet spot, but some people still find 16GB to be enough for gaming.
Based on these findings, it seems like 8GB of RAM is still a good starting point for most people, but it might not be enough for everyone. It's also worth considering the specific use case for the laptop - if you're using it for gaming or other memory-intensive tasks, you might want to consider upgrading to 16GB or more.
