Tony Hancock - not Terry Nation the TRUE Dalek creator?
Slightly off topic, but we do bend the rules at Xmas!!
I have been reading this on other message boards....has anyone heard it? I understand Tony was having lunch with Terry & he turned the salt & pepper pots upside down & said "These would make great space creatures dressed up a bit" or words to that effect. Terry adopted the idea & this resulted in the Daleks.

On the "Doctor Who - 30 Years in the Tardis" video, (which includes an interview with Terry Nation and footage of his house and Daleks), there is some disagreement as to who really did create the Daleks. Although Terry Nation wrote the episodes, it was another man who worked for the BBC that designed them.
The video includes a GMTV competition, with the question "Who created the Daleks?" Jon Pertwee was on hand to pick the winning entry, but disagreed with the presenters when they announced the answer was Terry Nation. Interestingly enough, most of the competition entries had "Davros" on them!
