Hi! Les-lads,
Les the SVA does not make the criteria but the MOD,and when the troubles first started in earnest in 51,a lot of our lads lost their lives,and until July 54 when the treaty was signed this period became the criteria for the award of the GSM with Suez bar to end this conflict and it was the start of the withdrawal of British troops.You only had to serve 30 consecutive days in the Zone to Qualify and there was also a geographical area taken into consideration.You say that we do not care if those who served there after the criteria did not get a medal,but you are very wrong there,we would have liked to see everyone who served there up to 1956 get this award,but officialy after october 54 the Crisis was over.There has been other campaigns to get the National Defence medal which also looks like a no go.The SVA is always behind its members,and if there was any chance of getting a result they would be there promptly,the comraderie is always there Les,and if we could just wave a magic wand we would,and see that everyone got the Medal.you are not alone in bringing up this subject,and I can see why you all feel aggrieved,but it is not in our hands Les. but our lads are with you and every other vet.Take care lads keep well
