Re: Hi! Chaps!!

Hi! Jack-Lads,
Fancy meeting a nice chap like you over here,I have just left you on the other Forum.Regarding Photo's,I think a lot of us have changed over the years got thinner,or fatter, and do ot look a bit like the handsome lot we were then.I browse through the Then and Now pages and its hard to place a name if it was not written underneath, look at that one of me,if your stomach can stand it,I look nothing like the now photo, although I had just had two bouts of dysentry, and looked like someone just out of a POW camp, not a RAF one.

As for pensions, now that is a tricky one.You had to do 21 years in the colours in the RAF,but if you had signed on for 12,you had the option to carry on,but they did pay a bounty I think they
called it for the 12 years, a one off payment. If they counted my 5 years in the reserves I would have only been 4 years off qualifying.I have heard of the part pension Jack but I do not think the MOD would be willing to subscribe to that it took 50 years to get a medal from them, and It took years before they put up the overseas allowances for our lads serving abroad. They have reduced the payments for those who have suffered severe injuries in Afghanistan, and its only the last two years they have provided accomadation for wives and kin near the hospitals they are being treated in,there is a new one in Birmingham which is very good. The Americans have built villages for the kin of wounded soldiers and have provided one that I know of in the UK.With all the cuts being made in our armed services we would not have the resources to fight a major crisis.take care lads keep well and keep your old 303 in good nick, you may be needed

God Bless
Tony
