fishing in the BVI's

We're going to Tortola on Feb. 16 '07, and wanted to get some info on fishing down there. Was thinking of renting a trolling setup and just drag some lines while sailing around. Anyone have any luck down there this time of year.

thanks

Re: fishing in the BVI's

How was the fishing?

Re: fishing in the BVI's

The fish in the reef areas have a parasite which northerners cannot eat.
The deeper water fish might be OK.

I think your talking about Ciguatera? Mostly confined to higher predatory reef fish such as Barracuda. Anyone who eats a cuda with that parasite is going to get sick, not just northerners.....

Wild duk,

Buy a couple of Billy Bait Turbo Slammer lures and run them about 150 feet behind the boat, speed should be about 6knts. Look for the drop offs and current convergence zones in the passes. Also look for bait fish on the surface. Troll your lures through these areas and you'll have a blast. We've caught tuna, mahi and even hooked up a small sailfish once!. ALL EDIBLE and extremely yummy! Just don't eat the Barracuda and reef fish (angels, grunts, triggers etc.) Sounds crazy but some people do actually eat those things...
