Re: Re: Tyrone Power and the "Robe" and Elizabeth Taylor leading lady question please

Hi Melody!!
Thanks for the info. That makes sense and now I unserstnd the movie set up more with contracts back then. Yes they would have made a fantastic leading man and woman on screen both so dark adn smouldering in looks could you imagine them together on film...WOW.anyway thanks again Melody. I hope one day I can get to see his grave and resting place and just say...Hey you were the best Ty..you still have fans many many years on. We still love ya baby!!
Thanks again--GREAT SITE --GREAT TRIBUTE TO THIS WONDERFUL ACTOR!!!!!!!!!!!

Alexandra--Mr. Zanuck purposely secured The Robe in hope of getting Tyrone Power back to Fox, and Ty did consider it, but Tyrone decided in the end to remain in live theatre and pursue his own projects. Knowing The Robe, Ty would have made a great Marcellus (IMHO).

Maybe others in "Ty" land can answer back about Liz Taylor. I believe she was under contract with MGM which could have caused them not to be paired together considering the studio system of that time.

And, too, Ty passed away in 1958, so who knows had he lived longer they would have done a movie together. Both of them having dark coloring would have made a striking pair.

Welcome aboard!

Re: Tyrone Power and the "Robe" and Elizabeth Taylor leading lady question please

Hi Alexandra,

I'll have to second Melody's post--and her welcome as well :-)! He wasn't too keen on the role (on the other hand, considering some of the fare he *was* doing at the time (Pony Soldier anyone?), "The Robe" wouldn't have been half bad.

There is an article (or two?) in the Newspaper Article section, if memory serves but I can't for the life of me remember which one.

He woulda been great (and vise versa) with Liz, agree! Considering he was freelancing in the 50's, the possibiity was certainly there.

(He was slated to star with Ingrid Bergman on stage in the Spring of '59 and that would have been a pairing to see as well.)
