Another Medal Campaign

Another Medal Campaign.

Many readers of this Forum will be aware of the lengthy campaign run by Suez Veterans and their supporters to be awarded a medal for their services in the Suez Canal Zone. Despite different Governments and the MoD saying “NO, you don’t deserve one” we persevered and eventually the Government retracted their decision and in June 2003 a GSM with ‘Canal Zone’ clasp was awarded.

Now the British Nuclear Test Veterans’ Association are fighting a similar campaign. They want the UK Government to award a medal to the UK personnel who took part in the Nuclear Testing program around the world. They need help to get the recognition these Veterans deserve for the sacrifice they made for their country.

The British Nuclear Testing Programme ran between 1952 and 1967, it was the largest Tri-Service operation since the D-Day landings. Over 20,000 servicemen participated in the Weapons Tests. The development of these superweapons bought the United Kingdom’s place at the world superpower table.
